Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is

Does anybody really know what time it is ..... or so the song goes .
Well,I'm not sure I ever know what time it is but I never have a good excuse for being late.....because I've always loved clocks.

Here's a little peek into my collection.






Most of these clocks were picked up antiquing with my hubby. The one below I bought for him for our 5th wedding anniversary. Notice all the broken glass. That would be when my son threw a lunch kit at it at when he was 2 years old. He hit it again last year at 12 years old and broke another piece to match the first one. Heaven knows what he will do to it next time LOL
We love the chimes of this one but they do keep the house awake at night.



This one I bought for a song - $3.00 I think.....love a good deal!

Pink Saturday

I'm participating in Pink Saturday this week ......maybe a little different than the norm. I'm posting pink things that inspire me.

As the sound of music goes.......Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,brown paper packages tied up with strings, these are a few of my favorite pink things.

In my mosaic you will find ....a painting by my favourite artist, pink roses of course, packages tied up in pink satin, my pink fairy and pink angel, a pink carousel horse
and most of all a pastel pink sunset.

And while we're at it a few facts about pink:

Pink is the color of happiness and is sometimes seen as lighthearted. For women who are often overworked and overburdened, an attraction to pink may speak of a desire for the more carefree days of childhood.

* In Japan, the color pink has a masculine association. The annual spring blooming of the pink-blossomed cherry trees (the Sakura) is said to represent the young Japanese warriors who fell in battle in the prime of life (the Samurai).

* Jaipur City is a foremost tourist attraction in India because of its superlative forts, grandiose palaces, vivacious temples, multicolored bazaars, pulsating streets, and its distinguished pink color to which the city owes its oft-used name "The Pink City".








* Marrakesh is another city associated with the color pink. It is sometimes refered to as the "Rose City" because of its salmon-pink colored buildings and the red clay of its terrain.




* Pink signifies happiness and joy in Catholicism. (never knew that)



* Pastries taste better when they come out of pink boxes or served on pink plates (it only works with sweets). Pink makes us crave sugar. (knew that!)

Tablescape Thursday

I'm going out on a limb here and doing my first tablescape Thursday.Although I love to decorate, seeing what some of these talented ladies create,I have a lot to learn
about plate settings lol. But that's what I love about blogging .....all the creativity inspires you to think out of the box and stretch your comfort zone.

So this is the dining room after all the Christmas sparkle has been taken down.



Whoops...a few dead flowers.



My favourite saying on the picture:"Time with those loved is the greatest gift of all"

I had this red tray that I bought with the intention of spray painting it vintage white. But I held off and decided to use it in a Valentine's dinner tablescape.



I pruned some forsythia branches (which will eventually bloom), added them and hung my little red hearts from them.





I used beaded tassles as napkin holders......but I still have to add some romantic napkins.



The Friendship and Love book is from my Grandfather, as is the silverware.






I added some pictures of my three sweethearts when they were little and my big sweetheart when I met him.






I finished off the sideboard with some tulips and my husband's favourite angel picture.




I just need to add lots of candles and we're set for a romantic evening. The kids will cook and serve us dinner here on Saturday night....and the next day that red tray will turn vintage white .......I am so not a red person : )

A Beautiful Life

I love the idea of " A Beautiful Life" at The Inspired Room so I've decided to participate. I am a firm believer in seeing the beauty in the little things in life. One of my main prayers in the morning is for God to help me the see the beauty in everything that I pass that day ....be it something in nature , or be it the beauty of a child.

When I paint, that is one of my main goals ...to capture God's Beauty . So with that in mind , that will be my goal for this month. To get back into painting and to try and capture the beauty of my friend's children. To give a gift just for the pleasure that my friend will receive. Unfortunately, due to sport commitments for my kids this fall, I wasn't able to take my oil painting course on Saturdays ....which is like cutting off my right arm. SO I haven't picked up a paint brush since the summer . My girlfriend had wanted me to paint her kids:




She had seen these two paintings and wanted me to paint her kids like that.





So, no excuses, my goal is to dive in , start painting again and get this painting
done by her birthday in March. And along the way I know that I will be blessed and touched by the beauty in my path.

Don't You Just Love.....

Don't you just love friends that totally "get" you ? I mean, everything about you and what makes you who you are ? I'm teaching one morning and I hear a rap rap rap on the back door of my classroom. There's my friend Michelle with only this showing in my window. This gorgeous, patinaed silver urn that she'd found for a steal at a thrift shop. Totally my taste and totally made my day!





Then she drops this off at my doorstep another afternoon Army Rifle Competition 1960"
But too me that's part of the charm of it. And the fact that it was given to me with such thought !






I can hardly wait to fill them with white roses this summer. Then I'll use them as props in my paintings. Why wait til summer - white tulips will do perfectly !

Look What the Mailman Brought Me

I was so happy to open my mailbox the other day and find these:



Aren't they simply divine ? I hardly ever shop on Ebay but when I found these original French vintage cards I knew I had to have them. The letter on the back are to "petit bon papa, grandmama et grandpapa from their grandchildren Paulette and Renee. They are often written in their mother's penmanship but as this one shows sometimes Paulette writes. This one is dated 1922. The closing is usually - des bons baiser - sending some kisses or: Recoit toutes les bonnes caresses de tes petits enfants qui t'aiment. Receive or sending you some good hugs from your grandchildren who love you.






This one I've added to my second wreath which started out with the name



.....Belle Neige. It was an Alfred Sung wreath and I fell in love with the name right away. I figured I could somehow use it for my Valentine wreath.This is it on my outside door before adding anything to it.



If you look at it closely it's slighlty pearly irridescent - with just the right amount of sheen to it.




Here's the finished wreath. Definitely more feminine with a bit of bling.



I had these blown glass, red hearts that I loved. I left one red and hung it with a favourite fleur de lis. I really wanted silver ones and had read somewhere that you could use hot water to take the red paint off. So of course I tried it - not quite as easy as it sounded on new ornaments but I was able to scratch alot off. Then I added one of the vintage, French card.



I added these tarnished stars to hang off the end of my wreath.



Now take a look what Barb from Treasures From the Heart treasuresfromtheheartgifts.blogspot did with some cones a customer dropped off to her.I think she did an excellent job. I'll try and post a bigger picture tomorrow. She had seen my original post and had been wondering what to do with them. Check out her blog in my comments. I'm still no good at the linky thing no matter how many times I try it.
She's also got an excellent tutorial on how to make little birds nests. They're adorable! Very talented !

We Interrupt Our Regular Broadcast....

We Interrupt Our Regular Broadcast.... to inform you that I've been MIA again . A volleyball tournament Saturday 7am - 8pm Saturday and a late family Christmas Dinner Sunday. Because of the snow my parents weren't able to get out for
Christmas so we had another one yesterday - fun but a wee bit tiring .

To top that off my charger cord for my laptop kicked the bucket so I wasn't able to use the computer (Our other computer died after 20 power surges last 3 weeks ago when the power went out) Anyway, I'm on borrowed time (borrowing my colleague's charger) so not sure how often I'll be able to post until I get another one.

Will try to post a picture of the second wreath tonight.The picture is a little tease:)
